No news are good news
By Katrin Hennings | chairmen
There are no big changes and no exiting news from our project, and we are happy about that!
School year has started, the girls attend classes with all the daily challenges they have to face.
Challanges not only in everyday school life, but especially at home and in the social environment.
We can see that the girls are supported in dealing with their problems through regular meetings and the oportunity to come and see us at any time.
The birthday parties and the get-togethers with cake and lemonade are little highlights that they always look forward to and that strenghten the sense of community.

25 years anniversary
By Katrin Hennings | Chairman
Beginning of the year is a good momemt to look back at the history of the projekt and how it developed. And this year even more, because it's the 25th anniversary of the girls project! 25 years ago in 1999, two young Nicaraguan women decided to support very poor girls that urgently needed help because they lived in great poverty and critical conditions - alcohol, drugs and sexual abuse were frequently present.
In this 25 years the project has changed its modus, was growing and is now smaller again, concentrating on the poorest and a small group of girls that are personally supported. Through all this changes the project became more and more known in Barrio Sandino and Ocotal, the girls and the families know that the doors are open and they could come any time for support and help.
Time is running.. Last year one of the girls finished secondary school successful! A new school year will start in a couple of days, the imatriculation has started. We will continue to help 5 girls with all their necessities to start school again (uniform, shoes, backpack, paper, pencils, books). And this children and youngsters will continue to meet monthly to receive support and have fun. It's 18 years now that we are involved in this project and the girls project was the reason why Nicaragua-Projekt was founded.

new concept working well
By Katrin Hennings | chairman
We are working with our new concept and it is working well:
Our small group of girls meets regularly once a week: they talk with each other and our coordinator and report their successes and problems. These include events at school, within their families, and whatever else has happened of importance to them. They share a snack and have fun together.
This way we stay in touch, see how the girls progress and offer individual help, if necessary. We offer educational and social support, and also financial support if an emergency occurs or expenses for school are due.
Two of the girls lost their fathers last month and we were able to support the families during these difficult moments.
One of our girl’s family lives in the countryside. She can now stay during the week at a private home in Ocotal so she can attend secondary school.
Our goal is to create a reliable support system and also offer an opportunity for positive and fun experiences.
