The girl’s education project in Nepal has been continued for the 14th year. We have expended £72K over the years and sponsored equivalent to 972 girls from poor and Dalit families in rural Nepal. So far, 65 girls have completed their secondary education exam through the project, 19 have completed higher secondary level of exam and 9 have left the scheme without completing the final levels of their school exam for various reasons. In 2023, we are sponsoring 84 girls from class seven to twelve and budgeted to spend £8,895.

We have raised funds through various sources to finance the project over the years. At the very beginning, it was a big struggle and only few of us was contributing to finance the project. But later on, help from all over the world began to arrive and it made easier for us to sponsor more girls. Almost 65% of the total project spending has received through GlobalGiving and it also connected us with donors from eleven countries. We are so grateful to GlobalGiving and their effort to support small grassroots organisations like ours.

A NEW PROPOSAL TO OUR DONORS,

We have been exploring the possibilities to improve the quality of education of the girls in the scheme so the girls can achieve a better grade in the final exam that enables them to study higher education and, open many other doors in their life. The findings and feedback from the girls recommend to provide an additional tuition support after school to the girls by hiring teachers. The main reasons are- quality of teaching in the local community schools is poor, the girls we sponsor are from poor and Dalit families and, their parents are illiterate so they are not receiving any support in their study at home like others do in the community. Hence, the girls cannot do well in their study and receive a poor grade in the final exam which limits them what they want to do in their life ahead.

We have worked out that we need at least four teachers- Mathematics, English, Nepali and Science. The teachers will teach only on Friday and Saturday for four hours each day and, one hour for each subject at a central location. The 84 girls will be divided into four groups and they will learn one hour for each subject. So, in total each girl will receive 8 hours of learning support a week throughout the year.

Cost to provide the support will be around £6,500 annually. The cost includes 52 weeks salary of four teachers, cost to hire four class rooms, teaching materials and salary of a facilitator/monitoring person. An impact of the activity will begin to see within few months in the girls but to see an impact on improving the grades will take at least two to three years.

Our current fundraising is just enough to cover the cost of sponsorship of the eighty-four girls. Therefore, we are requesting someone to commit to finance the additional tuition support activity for two to three years only.

Total costing for two years will be £13,500

Total costing for three years will be £19,500
