THE LONGEST STRIKE IN NEPAL

By Krit Sharma | Project Leader

Nepal adopted a new constitution recently and people of the Terai are unhappy with it. So, they are agitating since the adoption of the constitution for their political rights to be amended in the constitution. This is over three months by now and there is no sign of when this will end. Schools, offices and businesses are closed and the general life is severely affected. Some of the pictures from the agitation:

The girls in the scheme will not progress in their study in these circumstances and there is no sign when the schools will re-open. So, we decided to provide tuition classes in the mornings and evenings until the schools re-open. It costs Nepalese Rupees 300 (£1.90) per girl, per month. We have 101 girls in the scheme so an estimated £770 will be spent on this activity. We are hopeful that this will keep the girls motivated and progressive in their study.

For a small charity like us, £770 is a lot of money and this wasn’t budgeted or planned. With your support and generosity 101 girls from the poorest of the poor families in rural Nepal are being educated. Please donate whatever you can afford towards this unexpected expense. Your support is appreciated.

The NVF team also wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
