This project seek to use creative arts such as drama, songs and debates to address the issue of adolescent pregnancy in Pemba Island and provide prevention methods and community response system by conducting 3 episodes of drama, songs and debates on issues related to adolescent pregnancy, providing sensitization to 3,000 youths and providing training and life skills on community related gander based violence (CRGBV) prevention to 100 community volunteers, peer and teachers counselors.
Community adolescent related pregnancy is a major hindrance to girls' empowerment, especially in most rural parts of Pemba Island. These involve Child, early and Forced and other Child related gander based violence (CRGBV) marriage, sexual harassment and aggressive behavior largely by boys on girls. Such behavior is rarely punished/ reported as it's often seen as normal and a 'natural' part of growing up. This makes unsafe for girls.
This project seek to use creative arts such as drama, songs and debates to address the issue of adolescent pregnancy in Pemba Island and provide prevention methods and community response system, to ensure communities serve as a safe environment for all, girls in particular. The objective is to empower young girls to have a voice by encouraging youth engagement and peer conversations on issues affecting them
The project will provide training to 100 Peer and Teachers counselors who serve as the loudspeaker for this program. They would help raise awareness and be the advocate who will carry the message to their communities. Training them will not only raise their awareness on the issue, but also will make them frontiers on fighting against CRGBV. 80 Local government Policy Makers (PMs) are more responsive to women and youths needs by including their demands in planning and budgeting processes.
