Greetings from the Indian Dreams Foundation (IDF)!
Team IDF wishes you a very happy new year, May you find peace, joy, and fulfilment in 2024.
We want to thank everyone for your support and for choosing the Menstrual Hygiene Project to transform the lives of underprivileged girls & and women from the urban and rural slums of India. The project is dedicated to educating, aware & and empowering adolescent girls & and women towards their reproductive health & and well- and this is appreciable how effective this project is in overcoming myths & and taboos associated with Periods. All because of people like you who care in a very genuine way and transform the lives of many girls & and women.
We timely organize training sessions with Smiley Didis who belong to the same communities where we serve; they are Change Makers for their communities. We make a group of women called Smiley Didi Group from every community that work as the project representatives and connect more women and girls from the communities. These groups of women are trained regularly during informal and cluster meetings.
Below is a story of one of our Smiley Didi (Rashmi, name changed);
Rashmi said, “I live with my husband along with my four children in a one-room rental house. My elder daughter is about fifteen years old. I got married at a very young age to a man who worked as a shoe labourer. After marriage, I faced a lot of problems related to my abnormal periods. I caught a severe infection in my vagina; the doctor told me the cause of the infection was not using sanitary pads during periods. One day, I was sitting in a corner and my husband asked me about the reason for my silence. I hid my face with shame and rushed towards the room. He followed me continuously till I didn’t tell him the problem that I had been facing for the previous days. The next day I shared my issue with him”.
She added, “I am happy and thank the IDF team for recognizing me as Smiley Didi to empower other women like me and follow healthy habits during periods to stay fit & and happy. Now I meet many women regularly and motivate them to adopt hygiene practices during periods to stay healthy”.
