No one stops us to create awareness on menstrual hygiene management even during COVID 19 pandemic crisis. Team Smiley Days are dedicated to educating & aware adolescent girls and women from urban slums of Agra towards their healthy periods and breaking the taboo of shyness on periods.
This pandemic crisis is very challenging for us to reach our beneficiaries, well we found a solution and we regularly connect with our beneficiaries and school girls over the phone. The awareness sessions have been conducted by the team members over con call regularly and educate girls to follow healthy and hygienic practices during menstruation. Although, girls are taught on COVID 19 measures and precautions to be followed to stay safe and healthy.
Sanitary pads are also provided to the girls and women during this tough time with the help of our local field volunteers.
Muskan (name changed) a school going girl of age 14 said, “I love to go to school but I mostly skipped three days every month due to my periods and uncomfortably raised in those days. I used the old cloth to soak my period flow as my mother suggested me to do this. But when I attended the Smiley Days session in my school, I have been using sanitary napkins since then and attended school regularly. But due to Corona, our school is closed to follow the lockdown rules. All shops are closed and everyone has instructed to stay at home to safety. I was unable to bought sanitary napkins during the periods. But this is true that our hopes never faded. Team Smiley Days have provided me sanitary pads at my doorstep. I thanks to team Smiley Days”
Thank you, friends, for your love and support to transform the lives of girls and women in India.
Regards,
Team IDF
