Dear Friends,
Greetings from Indian Dreams Foundation!
It is our pleasure to share with you the updates of the Smiley Days Project that aims to disseminate knowledge and information towards menstrual hygiene management and wellbeing to the targeted adolescent girls and women from urban and rural slums of Agra, India.
In our last report, we have shared a story of a girl who experiences periods first time during lockdown periods. Now, we are come up with another story of our beneficiary of Smiley Days Project;
Rani (name changed) is quite different from the one of her age. She lacks the maturity that is expected out of an 18-year-old person. Her mental understanding and insufficient knowledge make her vulnerable to menstrual health and hygiene issues. Rani and her mother visited our Centre to undergo counseling. She being unable to tell her problems or issues, Rani’s mother informed us about them. This included a lack of information regarding the Menstrual Cycle, its duration, reasons, importance, management, and others. She tends to forget her periods' date and hence, was incapable of ascertaining it well in advance which caused trouble.
Rani’s mother is worried about her married life as their family is planning her wedding. Here Rani has her mother but after marriage, she has to take care of herself.
To mitigate her worries, the Smiley Days team guided and educated her about menstrual health, its management, and hygienic practices to be followed during periods. She came to know about sanitary napkins, their usage, and the right way of disposing of them. She regularly receives sanitary napkins under Smiley day’s project. Gradually the situation has been changing, Rani is taking care of the hygiene issues and wearing sanitary pads on her own during periods. Now her mother is satisfied and conveys her thanks to the Smiley Days team for helping her daughter. Mother said “I was really worried for Rani’s future; she was not even understood the periods and every month she spoiled her clothes, I tried to teach her many times but couldn’t do anything. But now I am really happy that her behavior and practices have been changing”.
IDF is delighted to witness such a massive change in girls’ lives and hopes to create an army of happy and confident girls.
Many thanks again for your support!
We will continue to keep you updated about our work, events, and story of change.
