Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Indian Dreams Foundation!
Each year on the 28th of May, the world comes together to celebrate the proud moment of Menstrual Hygiene Day to create awareness about menstruation, provide safe, comfortable and hygienic practices to adolescent girls and women & eradicate persisting taboos and stigma related to the menstruation.
This year, the theme for World Menstrual Hygiene Day is “Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030”.
We have also celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022 with underserved slums women and girls and organized a workshop to spread awareness on MHM and well-being. We have distributed hygiene kits to all the participants that include sanitary pads, bathing soap, washing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitiser etc.
The project lead Ms Jyoti Singh said, “Our aim to celebrate the day is to provide important information related to young girls and women so that they do not inadvertently fall prey to any deadly diseases”. She added, “Actually, there are still many such societies around the world where women are not able to talk openly about periods. Our team is dedicated to creating a positive environment towards menstruation so that girls and women can talk about it openly without any hesitation.”
More than 200 women and girls have participated in the workshop and celebrated the day with enthusiasm. Women & girls have shared their journey with the Smiley Days project.
A woman named Sandhya (name changed) said, “When I attended the Smiley Days workshop the first time, I felt ashamed and walked away. But the next day when I met with other women in my community, they told me how the Smiley Days team members informed and educated us about periods and how to stay healthy during periods. Then I decided to attend the next Smiley Days workshop. Smiley Days project has given me a lot of knowledge and the same knowledge I am transferring to my daughter who is 11 years old. Today, I do not ashamed to talk about periods even though I feel proud”.
Thank you so much for your support that helps us in changing many lives in India.
Regards,
Team IDF
