“When I got my first period, I was at home after a day of school. When I first realized that it happened, I was afraid. I didn’t know what to expect, making me feel uncomfortable and restless. I was blanked and unable to decide where to talk. I only told my mother because she had to help me. I was nervous to tell her, I am not sure why but I was much nervous.
I rushed to my mother and told her about the blood stain on my dress. She first hugged me and tried to calm down. The moment I was feel like so relaxed. My mother told me periods are normal for every girl and it’s a natural process. She shared her first-period story with me to make me comfortable and she handed me a pack of sanitary napkins. She also demonstrated to me the use of napkins. I am happy that I have a proud mother.
Well, my mother attends regular training and awareness sessions of the Indian Dreams Foundation and gains knowledge on menstrual health and hygiene. She also inspired other women to live with confidence. I really thank Indian Dreams Foundation (IDF) team for spreading awareness towards periods and normalising the topic. IDF is empowering girls and their mothers towards reproductive rights”, Seema (14 years, the name changed) shared her first-period story with the Smiley Days team. The moment she shared her story, she looked so confident.
Your support is helping to educate and empower girls & women in India and they will live happily with confidence.
Regards,
Team IDF
