Dear Friends,
Greetings from Indian Dreams Foundation!
This month, the Indian dreams foundation spread its wings into the new Muslim community in Agra City to understand menstrual taboos associated with Muslim females and spread awareness on menstrual hygiene.
Menstruation is a topic associated with immense stigma and numerous taboos; women are made to feel ashamed for a bodily function as normal as breathing.
Our team were curious to as the following questions to the Muslim women during the interaction workshop;
# Do Muslim women still face menstrual stigma?
# Are they shamed for not praying and fasting because they are on their periods?
# Do they feel, or are they made to feel impure because they are bleeding?
# What are the typical restrictions on Muslim women?
Approx. 35 Muslim women participated in the workshop and discussed the issues related to the periods.
Our team educated them towards healthy hygiene practices during menstruation and the importance of sanitary napkins to stay healthy and hygienic.
Saira (name changed), who is 34 years old said, "We women received such knowledge first time in our life. No one used to interact with us on menstruation. Today, I feel happy to know that menstruation is not a topic of ashamed. Didi (Smiley day consultant) taught us very useful things and she also provided us with sanitary napkins".
Thank you all for your continuous support in changing lives in India.
Regards,
Team IDF
