Dear friends,
It is our pleasure to share the progress updates of the Smiley Days Project that dedicates to spreading awareness & knowledge on menstrual hygiene management & well-being of adolescent girls & women.
Recently, we have organized an awareness workshops on MHM with school girls and distributed Smiley kits to the school girls. More than 100 girls between ages 11 – 17 years participated and discussed their queries on periods.
During the workshop, the trainer described the anatomy of the female reproductive system and described why girls have periods. The team gave a demo on how to use sanitary napkins and why sanitary napkins are comfortable in comparison with cloths.
The trainer also described a balanced diet as essential for proper growth, development and functioning of the body and this remains true even during the years of menstruation. A balanced diet containing lots of fresh fruits and vegetables should be taken. Consuming a diet rich in Iron is extremely important. Iron is required by the body to make haemoglobin, an important component of blood.
Varsha is a 12th student who wanted to know more about periods pain and asked, "Why do I feed badly during my periods? and I don't like to play with my friends even during those days. What do I do to minimize stomachache during periods? A few of my cousins suggested taking pain relief pills".
Smiley Days team addressed all girls and gave pain relief solutions during periods. We suggested them to do all their daily routine activities, take nutritional food, and think positively about periods because periods are proud of every girl and suggested putting a warm water bottle on their stomach and insisting on taking pain relief pills.
Varsha said thank you team Smiley Days to educate us and we all will follow all the hygiene practices during menstruation that you have told us.
IDF is dedicated to spreading awareness towards the importance of MHM. Your support & motivation always help us to achieve our mission.
Thank you so much for your support!
Regards,
Team IDF
