Dear Friends,
Greetings from Indian Dreams Foundation!
It is my pleasure to share our latest report on the progress of our project “Smiley Days” that promotes menstrual health & hygiene for adolescent girls for their well being in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Your support and well wishes have been changing life of many girls to make them aware and sensitize towards female health issues.
Under the project, we have been in a process to broaden our areas of working in new slum/ communities. We have been establishing partnership with new schools at Devri Road and emphasis to reach more than 5000 girls by the end of this year. Devri Road is one of the slums in Agra and the majority of the population is associated with shoe making the sanitation conditions in the surrounding areas are negligible.
Recently, we have conducted awareness workshops on health, hygiene and wellbeing of adolescent girls in our new partner schools- Smt. Kamla Arun Inter College and Sarvodaya Inter College, Devri Road, Agra. During session, the girls interacted with the trainers and shown their interest in the topics related to their physical growth and development. The workshop was more on the interactive in nature where girls interacted with counselors directly on different issues related to their menstrual health.
Vaishali, an adolescent girl, is presently studying in the seventh class in Smt. Kamla Arun Inter College said “I started menstruating last year. My periods are not regular, I was afraid that I caught in infections. I didn’t tell this to anyone so far. But now I feel relaxed to share this with the counselor who came to my school last week.During the workshop, she educated us to adopt safe and hygienic menstrual practices to stay healthy. My neighborhood friend Preeti who dropped her school last year because she had started menstruating that year and her mother forced her to stay at home. After attending the workshop in my school, I delivered the same information to Preeti and my other friends for adopting hygienic practices and how we can stay healthy".
Vaishali added " I am really happy that I have been recognized as one of the Smiley Girl of my school by the IDF to motivate and sensitize other girls regarding menstrual and health related issues”.
Thank you for your support and well wishes that helping to make this project success and impactful.
Do contribute to help us for the cause that can change the lives of many underprivileged girls and women.
