Train 60 Girls as Health Champions in Uganda

17 years ago, Marion walked into our program needing school fees. This August, she graduates with a Diploma in Pharmacy from Maya Paramedical School of Health Sciences.

But Marion’s story isn’t ending at graduation. It’s starting again — as a trainer.

“I was once the girl sent home for fees. Now I want to make sure no other girl misses school because of preventable illness,” Marion told us last week during her final exams.

While completing her studies this August, Marion has been co-designing our new Marion Health Champions Program with nurses from Nsangi Health Center IV. She’ll lead Week 1: “Hygiene + Water Safety” training for the first 60 girls this December.

What’s next - December 2026 Cohort:
We’re opening applications for 60 girls aged 16-20 in Kampala/Wakiso slums. Training starts Dec 15. Each Health Champion gets a medical kit to serve their community.

Throughout her studies, Marion has maintained good standing with the institution. She has shown strong interest in pharmaceutical practice, patient care, and ethical dispensing. Instructors note her diligence and willingness to learn in both theory and practical sessions.

Future Plans
Upon completion of her certificate, Marion has strong employment prospects. Several entry-level opportunities exist for certified pharmaceutical assistants in community pharmacies and clinics. She also intends to self-sponsor a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Studies to advance her qualifications and career growth.

Despite occasional abrupt fee requests from the institution, Ms. Brooke has continued to provide financial support without fail.
