Child marriage is a significant issue in Uganda. We propose to advance girls' leadership by facilitating Girls' Parliaments, reaching 10,000 girls. We aim to promote critical reflection and questioning of beliefs that perpetuate child marriage. We will train 250 girls to lead Girls' Parliaments as change agents and increase information dissemination on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Child Marriage. With your donation, we can empower girls to become leaders and advocates
Child marriage is a major impediment to girls' and women's human rights and development in Uganda. According to the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS) 2016, 40% of girls are married by the age of 18, and 10% are married before their 15th birthday. The tradition of dowries contributes to the prevalence of child marriage. Our project aims to address this challenge by empowering girls and communities to take action against child marriage
Girls and women will advocate with key stakeholders to end child marriage. We will train 250 girls to lead Girls' Parliaments as change agents and increase information dissemination on SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) and Child Marriage among 10,000 girls, 150 policy implementers, and 3000 parents/leaders
The project will motivate sustained behavior change towards girls, addressing child marriage and promoting their rights. By empowering girls to become leaders and advocates, we expect to see a reduction in child marriage and gender-based violence. Our project will contribute to improving the status of girls and women in Uganda, enabling them to reach their full potential. With time, we envision a society where girls are valued and respected, and child marriage is a thing of the past.
