The Sandra Jones Centre recently had the pleasure of hosting the graduation ceremony for 16 young women who have just finished their agricultural training program. This 12 month long gruelling course is not for the fainthearted, but these young women persevered and are now ready to go and start their own little farming projects in the rural areas. The course includes a broiler chicken project, running a piggery, greenhouse farming and commercial vegetable farming. We also train them in how to run a small business, communication, decision making, conflict resolution, goal setting and budgeting. All skills that will be invaluable as they set out on their new lives as empowered young women.
What an amazing transforming has taken place in these girls. They arrived at the centre defeated, with no self-confidence and no belief in themselves. Through the course they learned that they are worthy and capable of steering their own future. As Zimbabwe continues to fall into state of despair our girls now have the tools and resources to support themselves and their families. There are many who play a part in this transformation and we would like to acknowledge organizations like AFCA who’s constant support makes it possible for us to this vital work.
The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa. As you start to make decisions regarding your end of year giving, please keep us in mind so we can continue our good work into 2023 and beyond. We wish you a new year full of many blessings and as much hope as you have shared with us. If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
