Train 60 girls in computer coding in Afghanistan

Building trainers' knowledge in coding languages

By Valentina Di Felice | Project Leader

Recently the Womanity Foundation has launched Girls Can Code year 3, a vocational training program for students in grade 10th to 12th. The program includes a one yearlong course of English in grade 10th, one of basic computer literacy in grade 11th and a course called Introduction to Coding and Web Development in grade 12th.

Our trainers for the Coding program needed to increase their knowledge in specific coding languages to be taught to students in the second half of 2018.

For this reason, during summer holidays (exam break in the Afghan academic year) we organised workshops for them in the following subjects:

1 -  Linux Training taught by Nasira Jan

2 - JQuery Training taught by Liza Popalzai

3 - PHP - Admin Panel taught by Liza Popalzai, Laila Mohammadi and Shakera Zia

4 - WordPress taught by Malalai Mayar and Laila Mohammadi

5 - Laravel taught by Sharifa Nawroozi

Training are facilitated by peer trainers in order to increase peer-to-peer- support and cross learning.

The program started with an intro session on English and ICT to better inform trainers on how students are prepared in these two subjects before joining the coding training.

Four trainers and their four assistants will be part of the program. Training sessions are organised during the month of July 2018
