This project will empower 200 teenage pregnant girls in Busoga sub region- Uganda with livelihood skills in hair dressing and tailoring with an aim to increase their economic empowerment. The girls will also be supported to form VSLA groups which will enable them have access to financial capital. Each of the trained girls will be equipped with a start up kit to help her start her own business. Training in entrepreneurial skills will be conducted to help them manage their businesses better.
Teenage pregnancy is at 24% in Uganda and the percentage increases to 34% in Rural areas(UNICEF 2015) which are COFCAWE's target. The situation has been worsened due to the closure of schools resulting from COVID 19 pandemic. Media reports have indicated that many girls will not report back to school when schools open due to teenage pregnancy. This project will support 200 teenage mothers in Busoga sub region -Uganda as a second chance to enable them care for themselves and their babies
COFCAWE will equip teenage mothers with livelihood skills in hair dressing and tailoring. The teen mothers will also be supported to form VSLA groups which will ease their access to soft loans without collateral. The mothers will also be trained in financial management particularly book keeping to help them manage their businesses better. Each of the trained beneficiary will be provided with a start up kit depending on the acquired skill.
The project will increase the economic empowerment of 200 teenage mothers which will improve their well being and that of their babies.
