Summary

In Nigeria, late-stage cancer kills thousands of women yearly because screenings are unaffordable, stigma silences victims, and treatment is out of reach. This project offers free breast and cervical cancer tests (mammograms, biopsies) and full treatment, including chemotherapy, surgery, and pain care, to 50 low-income women in Enugu, Lagos, and Kwara states. We partner with hospitals to fund care and host workshops to train 1500 women in life-saving self-exams to improve early cancer detection

Challenge

In Nigeria, thousands of women die yearly from breast and cervical cancer due to unaffordable screenings, stigma, and lack of accessible treatment. In Enugu, Lagos, and Kwara states, where cancer cases are most prevalent, costs are prohibitive and fear of judgment stops women from seeking help. Late-stage diagnoses lead to preventable deaths. Limited awareness of self-exams leaves many unaware of early symptoms. Survivors' peer-led efforts cannot reach everyone, prolonging suffering and loss.

Solution

This project tackles Nigeria's cancer crisis by providing free screenings and full treatment, including chemotherapy, surgery, and pain care, to 50 low-income women in Enugu, Lagos, and Kwara. We partner with hospitals to remove cost barriers and host workshops training 1,500 women in self-exams for early detection. Survivors lead anti-stigma campaigns and share survival stories. Your funding covers surgeries, diagnostics, and peer education, so marginalized women can get life-saving care.

Long-Term Impact

By saving women's lives and teaching communities to detect cancer early, this project eliminates preventable deaths. Healthy women can care for families, earn income, and advocate for better healthcare. Survivors' stories reduce stigma, encouraging more women to seek help sooner. Trained women share self-exams with neighbors, spreading life-saving knowledge and building local capacity to sustain cancer care. In the long run, more mothers survive, and fewer children grow up as orphans.
