Summary

Over 16 years Los Patojos has developed a unique holistic approach to educating more than 500 children and youth each year in Jocotenango, Guatemala. The program addresses each child's nutritional, medical and educational needs, also introducing English, dance, photography, music, sports and arts, allowing them to find their passion. They will be a new generation who will stay in their country and make long lasting change.

Challenge

In Guatemala, where 45% of children under 5 suffer from malnutrition and only 40% finish Grade 6, coupled with one of the highest crime rates in Central America and a non-functioning medical and education system, our students face many challenges. There is no governmental protection. Living in Jocotenango, where violence, alcoholism, drug addiction and endemic poverty are too prevalent, the lives of these kids are severely impacted. We are building a new future for these children. Please donate.

Solution

Education is the key for every person to be responsible for their own history. Los Patojos' holistic approach provides over 675 nutritious meals daily, in addition to free medical attention in our clinic. The educational program is unique in that it is delivered by teachers who inspire the children with love, respect and encouragement. The environment is a safe place where students learn to think critically, succeed in their studies and find their passion through the music/art/sports programs.

Long-Term Impact

Because of the stability each student attains through their education, they are able to participate in our programs to improve the community such as eco-agriculture, a bakery micro business and community development events. By investing in our team you will educate and guide hundreds of kids and teenagers that are at risk and who come from vulnerable areas. They will change their lives and in turn they will change their community. They do not need to leave their country to seek a better life.
