At Los Patojos We Will Never Give Up

By Donna Jepson | Project Leader

At Los Patojos We Will Never Give Up.

The last few months have been difficult with a disastrous eruption from the Fuego volcano, but we are persisting. Los Patojos has accepted new families from the affected areas into our program. They can now be healthy, safe and with our program, create a new future for themselves through education, art and love.

Denery is an example of how change is possible. He came to Los Patojos at 10 years of age. In his own words, he had experienced many familial problems, but the school programs have totally changed his life. He now is happy with his life and environment. As well as studying in Grade 7, Denery found three passions; one is to be part of the bakery team, another is to teach younger children how to bake and the third is photography. Working in the bakery team has provided him with new ways of thinking, new ways of learning how to work in a team which he says has been a beautiful experience. He says some of the most special moments for him are when the bakery team, his fellow students and the teachers share knowledge with each other. These lessons he knows will help him in his future. He wants to finish high school, go to college and eventually attend university.

When we give a child an opportunity to be educated, to think for themselves, to change the future rather than dwell on the past, we give them hope. Denery is on the path to a better future.

Thank you to all the donors who have helped us this last year, Denery and every one of the 390 children appreciate your assistance.

Muchas Gracias!
