Sharing Session for Combined Lip and Nose Revision Surgery
The Sharing Session for Combined Lip and Nose Revision Surgery is designed for the cleft lip and palate adults who will soon receive the surgery. During the session, they can have more understanding of the surgical procedure and can do a better preparation beforehand. HKACLP invited the cleft lip and palate patients who have already received combined lip and nose reconstructive surgery to share their experiences about the surgery, process of seek for medical treatment in public and private sectors, pre-operation preparation etc.
As a cleft lip and palate patient grows up, he may have developed secondary cleft lip and nasal deformity such as tight upper lip, irregular lip scars, asymmetric upper lip, widened and flattened nostril(s) etc. To an adult patient, Combined Lip and Nose Reconstructive Surgery is very important because the surgical revision may help to improve their lip and nose function, and eliminate their facial difference. So that, they can integrate into the society and will not miss their golden age of life.
2022.08.27 Horticultural Therapy Workshop
HKACLP has held a Horticultural Therapy Workshop during the Summer Holidays. This workshop enables cleft lip and palate children and their families to have an opportunity to engage in gardening activities. It can improve their memory and cognition, when interacting with Mother Nature may reduce stress as well as lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Moreover, horticultural therapy can help to lessen attention fatigue, promote a higher level of attention, and improve hand and eye corporation.
In the workshop, children teamed up with their parents to make a DIY natural cleaner with orange peels, a dried flower photo frame, and a mini bonsai and herb garden under the guidance of the horticultural therapist. Participants can take their finished goods home and keep on cultivating an interest in gardening. Joining the workshop, the children not only gain gardening techniques but also increase their social skills and bonding with their parents.
