Reunion Day for Newborn Patients’ Parent Groups
The Association organizes newborn CLP patients’ parent groups and normally 4 groups will be formed every year. Through veteran volunteers’ explanation, experience sharing and emotional support, new parents can understand the techniques of care taking affected babies and the treatment schedule. A "Reunion Day" will then be organized for all participants of the 4 groups to strengthen their connection and feeling of belonging. On that day, they also share with each other for home-school cooperation to help CLP children in school learning and social development; parent/child communication skills, so that parents can be well prepared to help CLP children at different stage of growth.
Purchase of Jaw Surgery Equipment
The Association purchased jaw surgery equipment under the sponsorship of Hong Kong Chamber of Pharmacy Limited. They were put into use by the medical team of Evangel Hospital under the Association’s “Cleft Lip and Palate Charity Treatment Project” to undertake Reconstructive Triple Jaw Surgery for a young member of the Association. After the jaw surgery, the young member was very happy with the improvement to her eating problems and the change to “normal” appearance which in turn helps her integrating into the society and seeking for jobs.
On-Site Support Services at Hospital
The Association provides regular on-site support services at the “Patient Support Station” of the United Christian Hospital. The on-duty volunteers are the Association’s member parents. They share their past experiences and show concern to the parents of newborn CLP babies who come to the hospital for follow-up consultations. The volunteers also find it invaluable to talking as well as making connection with others facing similar situations. We trust that these support services do help the patients’ families feel less isolated and they are not alone at all.
