Hello friends,
On Tuesday, April 14, XSProject will participate in the Microsoft YouthSpark Bonus Day. I hope you will join me by making a contribution to XSProject so we can continue our work educating the children at Jakarta’s trash picker community.
Microsoft has $100,000.00 in matching funds.
They will match YOUR DONATION 50% until the money runs out.
Matching begins on April 14 at 9AM (EDT) and ends 11:59PM (EDT).

XSProject regularly participates in YouthSpark Bonus Days. When I am at the Cirendeu open garbage dump in Jakarta, I hear so many stories from the young people with big dreams but little hope. This is why education is so important to me and to the work XSProject does.
Many of you reading this already contribute to XSProject’s work to provide education to the trash picker’s children. Your generosity has already changed the lives of the students who are now able to go to school and of their parents who speak with pride about their children.
I want to introduce you to three of our students: brother and sister Oki and Fifi and Nurlela. XSProject has been paying for the education of these young people since they were very young. Now, as they prepare to enter vocational (high) school, they will have to decide if they want to choose a vocation or go on to college. They know that without the continued support of XSProject they will not be able to do either.
Oki’s Story
Oki completed vocational school last year, where he studied social work. After an internship at the Department of Social Services and Welfare, he was hired full time to rehabilitate and find homes for the many children who live on the streets of Jakarta.
Oki will need a college degree as a Social Worker to advance his career and make more money so he can buy a home and move his family away from the garbage dump. College for Oki is about $600.00 per semester.
Fifi’s Story
Fifi is Oki’s sister. She is 15 and in her last year of middle school (9th grade). Later this month she will take her exam to be accepted into vocational (high) school. She will start in July.
Fifi’s dream is to train and work in the Hotel and Hospitality industry. Like Oki, she wants to find good work so she can help her family find a better home, away from the trash heaps. She takes her education seriously, loves to read and always looks for books people have discarded. The cost to send Fifi to vocational school in July is $335.00 a year.
Nurlela’s Story
Nurlela was born and has lived her entire life in Jakarta's trash picker community. She was one of the first children to go to kindergarten with financial support from XSProject. Today she is in the 11th grade at a vocational (high) school. In addition to school, she is also working as an intern at the XSProject office.
At school she is studying Accounting and will graduate in 2016. "After I graduate," she says,"I plan to look for a job. If I get the opportunity, I also want to go to college. XSProject has helped me a lot and I have gotten new skills and knowledge during my internship. The main reason I want to work is to help my parents, so my family can have a nice house away from Cirendeu (garbage dump)." The cost to send Nurlela to college is $300 per semester.
Please contribute what you can on April 14 to make Oki’s, Fifi’s and Nurlela's dreams of higher education a reality.
Thank you from all of us at XSProject in Jakarta!
