Hello,
My name is Suratmi and I live with my parents, Siti, Sokimin and my two younger sisters at the Cirendeu open garbage dump in Jakarta, Indonesia.
I am 13 years old and in the 7th grade. At the beginning of each new semester, XSProject comes to our community, gives my friends and me new school uniforms, shoes, books, backpacks and also pays the expenses so my friends and I can go to school. XSProject has been helping my family since I started First Grade.
I like school very much and study hard to get good grades. My favorite subject is Mathematics. I am also studying Arabic in Language class. I think my parents are proud of me and glad that I can go to school instead of helping my mother sort trash.
But I have BIG dream. I want to go to Culinary School and become a professional chef. I love to cook and often help make snacks for the children in my community so they will have something to eat when they come home from school. It is my dream to work in a nice restaurant or a big hotel and earn enough money to take care of my family so my father doesn’t have to pick trash anymore. I asked Ibu Retno if XSProject can help me so I can go to school to learn to be a chef.
Salam hangat (Warm regards),
Suratmi
XSProject’s Note: We are currently building a scholarship fund to send Suratmi abroad to Culinary School in 3 years.
