The school year of 2018 – 2019 ended last month and very soon all students at Cirendeu trash picker dump site community will go back to school for the new school year of 2019 – 2020.
Many students will start in their new schools. The little children will go to Grade 1, some will go to Junior High School, some will go to High School and we will have additional students who will continue their education to college.
They are very excited and yet quite relieved after going through the process of registering, testing and administration. Going to public school in Indonesia is not easy for these trash picker’s children. Not only do they have to have good grades to compete with other students, they also have to have the proper administrative paperwork. Without birth certificates and proper IDs for their parents, the chance of getting into a good school, better education and better choice of area studies will be very slim.
The Grade 1 has to pass a counting and reading test. Children entering High School must go through a very tough screening. Only students with good grades will go to better quality schools. Going to Public School means more opportunities of area studies they can choose. For college, 15 students will compete for 1 seat. There are about 800.000 students for only 128.000 places at university. This year, we have 4 additional grade 12 graduates who decided to pursue their study to get higher degree beyond high school.
Your continuous donation will give our students more opportunities for higher and better education, so the chance of getting better future is greater.
On behalf of the students and the parents, thank you so much for your support.
