Being a college student can be unthinkable for the trash pickers’ children especially for their parents. In their family it is very rare maybe there could be one or two who graduated up to high school only. These children when pursuing higher education can then be the support system for their family by becoming a better and educated person. XSProject provides them with their college fees so they can change the children and their parents’ mindset and show them the world is much wider than just their trash environment. They want to introduce them to a better and broader kind of life. Arto and Inalisa are one of those fortunate children who are in their first semester in College since July 2021.They graduated from High School last June and were keen to continue their education.
Considering the completely new environment and new mindset needed, they have to learn to adapt to the world of education in college. Such as the discipline it requires, the completely independent learning process and interacting with lecturers and the college. Unlike when they were in elementary, junior high or high school where they always had their parents, guardians and teachers to assist and guide them.
In January they received their grades after 6 months of attending lectures. Their grades weren’t good as they are still surprised by the method used. They are not at all used to the “new” learning system in college. For example; the daily checking through e-learning in the form of assignments thus, it’s hard to keep track when an assignment is due or even the date of their exam. They also need to adjust to the constant usage of technology for getting themselves organized and completing their tasks.
With the help from the Foundation, we provide them with some computers, a place to study with smooth internet access so they can study easily. And if they repeat the subjects, they can do so to improve their grades too. To keep their spirits up so they don’t give up we will always support them for a brighter future.
