Project Report | Dec 20, 2024
A Challenging Year

By Retno Hapsari | General Manager

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

On behalf of everyone at XSProject, we would like to extend our gratitude and a big thank you to the GlobalGiving community for your support of our programs in 2024, despite the many unfortunate events that continue to unfold around the world.

Kindergarten Program: Building Strong Foundations

Our Kindergarten Program is now in its fourth batch, and the children from previous years have successfully advanced to primary school. We’ve noticed a significant improvement in their development—mentally, physically, and intellectually. These children are entering primary school not only better prepared but also more confident in their abilities.

To ensure the continued success of our program, we’ve been focusing on the professional development of our teachers. We’ve sent them to training sessions on reading instruction and, just as importantly, on how to manage funds wisely so that the program can remain sustainable in the long term.

College Scholarship Program: Empowering the Next Generation

This year marked a special milestone for our College Scholarship Program. Ariska, our 7th scholarship recipient, has graduated with a Nursing Degree, earning Cum Laude honors. Coming from several generations of trash pickers, attending college seemed like an impossible dream for her. But with your support, she has now fulfilled that dream.

Ariska’s success is not only a source of pride for her family but also an inspiration to younger children in the community, showing them that they, too, can dream big and achieve their goals. Ariska has expressed her desire to continue advancing her nursing education so she can give back to the organization that helped her along the way.

Across all school levels, we are seeing more and more students participating in school activities, including joining Scouts and engaging in school and campus organizations. Their involvement is a testament to the positive impact of our programs, encouraging the children to take an active role in their education and communities.

Annual Gathering: A Time for Unity and Fun

Each year, we host a special gathering and fun games day where children from all school levels come together to play and compete. This event, held every August, is a highlight for the children, as it offers a chance to bond, have fun, and celebrate their progress. We are proud to offer a safe and supportive environment where the children can create lasting memories and strengthen their sense of community.

Facing Challenges: Eviction and Resilience

This year, the community faced one of its toughest challenges. After more than 15 years in their homes, 21 families were evicted. The families have now relocated, and many are working harder to make ends meet due to higher rent costs. The children, too, are adjusting to new living arrangements.

Despite these challenges, we’ve seen an inspiring shift in the parents’ mindset. Many are prioritizing their children’s education more than ever before and are choosing to live closer to the schools. This change reflects their growing understanding of the importance of education in improving their children’s future.

Looking Forward: Your Support Makes a Difference

As we reflect on this year’s accomplishments and challenges, we are deeply grateful for your continued support. Your generosity has made a real and lasting difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. Thanks to you, we can continue to provide the resources and opportunities that help them overcome adversity and build brighter futures.

As we move into 2025, we hope you will continue to stand with us in our mission to support the trash picker community. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and help create lasting change.

Thank You and Happy Holidays

On behalf of everyone at XSProject, we would like to wish you a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year. May 2025 bring you peace, health, and happiness.

With sincere gratitude,
The XSProject Team
