Next month begins a brand new school year for children in Indonesia.
Since April, eleven 6 and 7 year- olds from XSProject’s XSVillage Pre-School have been attending PAUD/ECD or Indonesian Early Childhood Care and Education classes every Saturday morning for two hours.
A recent UNICEF study on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Indonesia, found that school drop-out rates for primary school children are highest in the first grade (37%).
To ensure a successful transition from pre-school to first grade for the XSVillage children, XSProject has recently adopted the Government ECD program. This is the first class to go through the program under XSProject. Three ECD teachers from the nearby village have volunteered their time to teach the children basic reading, writing and numbers skills to get them off to a successful start.
The Early Childhood Development program will now be available to all the children from the trash picker community. XSProject is currently making plans to have paid teaching staff for this program. We are seeking donations to pay for the training of two mothers living in our community to become ECD certified under the Indonesian program. Please help make this possible by making a donation.
