What does being a SAGE Scholar mean to you?
Being a SAGE scholar is truly a blessing to me. It has allowed me the opportunity to further my studies and reach my goals. This scholarship opportunity has shown me that through hard work, persistence and most importantly God anything is possible. I am extremely grateful to SAGE for believing in my abilities and my potential for the future. I cannot thank SAGE enough for what they are doing for me and for other Guyanese.
Can you talk a little bit about your passion for law and how that passion developed?
Law has always been interesting to me even before I knew what it truly was. The idea of studying Law has always made me happy and has given me the drive to work harder. As a child, the sureness of being a lawyer was subconsciously within and further molded by my family. However, my true love and understanding of law was developed as I did the subject at the sixth form level and is continuing to grow as I go deeper into the law courses at the University and as I am being exposed to the language of law and how to further think analytically.
Looking ahead, how do you hope to use your degree to contribute to Guyana's development?
My intention for the future is to become an International Human Rights Lawyer which would equip me to advocate not only for human rights but justice in Guyana and the world. I especially like the area of interacting with underprivileged children and persons with disabilities. My goal is to ensure that despite the personal and physical barriers faced, they be given opportunities to impact our society.
SAGE began in 2009 and continues to support scholars every academic year. To date, 21 deserving students have received full scholarships to the University of Guyana, with majors including law, medicine, international relations, education, computer technology, and tourism.
