Summary

Fundacion Camino is the first shelter in Chile specifically for adolescents with Cancer and their caregivers from regions who must travel to the capital to receive their treatments and don't have where to stay. With your help, we can continue improving the quality of life of young people with cancer and their families, positively impacting them, providing a home for them to stay during treatment, in addition to food, transportation to hospital, psychosocial support and comprehensive care.

Challenge

In Chile, many families and patiences with cancer often travel far from remote areas to access treatment in Santiago, the capital city. Many families cant afford housing or a place to stay. This creates emotional distress, financial pressure, and increases the risk of abandoning treatment. These young patients and caregivers need a safe home, emotional care, and a supportive environment to heal and live during the long treatments.

Solution

This project provides free housing, emotional support, occupational therapy, meals and transportation to hospital to adolescence with cancer and their caregivers who must travel to Santiago from all regions of Chile for their treatment. By offering a specialized, safe and supportive home, fundacion Camino reduces stress, gives families an opportunity of a place to stay, and gives them dignity and hope during the most difficult time of their lives.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, this project helps reduce health inequality in Chile by ensuring that access to cancer treatment is not limited by geography or poverty. It increases treatment adherence, improves emotional resilience, and supports family unity. Former patients often become advocates, spreading awareness and inspiring others. By offering a safe, healing space, the project helps break cycles of emotional and economic hardship-changing lives not just today, but for generations.
