Project report for Fundacion Camino

By Pablo Allard | Coordinator of Quality of Life and Development

Since the implementation, Fundación Camino’s House of Care has provided a safe and supportive home for adolescents with cancer and their caregivers who must travel from diferent parts of Chile to Santiago (the Capital) for treatment. Families have consistently expressed how the warm environment of the housing facility has given them not only a place to stay, but also a sense of dignity and belonging during a very difficult time. The welcoming atmosphere, rooted in respect and compassion, has eased the burden of long hospital journeys and reduced the emotional and financial strain on caregivers.

Beyond accommodation, Fundación Camino has implemented a variety of workshops and programs designed to support both patients and their families. These initiatives include psycosocial support and emotional support, recreational activities, and life-skills workshops that foster resilience, hope and creativity. Caregivers benefit from training sessions and peer-sharing spaces, while adolescents engage in activities that encourage creativity, self-expression, and social connection. Together, these programs create a holistic support system that addresses not only medical needs, but also emotional, social, and psychological wellbeing.

Feedback from families and the broader community has been overwhelmingly positive. Caregivers have highlighted how the workshops and supportive environment have helped them feel less isolated and more empowered in their role. Adolescents describe the house as a safe space where they can connect with others who understand their journey. Local partners and the wider community have also recognized Fundación Camino as a pioneer in adolescent cancer care, acknowledging the impact the House of Care has had in strengthening solidarity and hope among families.
