Give hope for underserved youths in Singapore

Hope In Action

Five months into Trybe’s Chrysalis service, Mr Danny* has seen how the programme improved his relationship with his foster son, Ali*. As first-time foster parents, Mr Danny and his wife wanted to be proactive in making sure that Ali feels loved and accepted. “Ali has been through a lot,” Mr Danny shares. “Because of this, we were more motivated to have the best relationship with him and the Chrysalis team has been very helpful to us.”

Chrysalis is Trybe’s intervention service that provides guidance to disadvantaged youths, steering them away from a negative lifestyle. For longer-term support, Chrysalis also works with the youth’s family through intentional activities and counselling.

When asked about his experience with the Chrysalis team, Ali admits that he appreciates having someone constantly rooting for him. “It means a lot to me that I have a someone to talk to about my problems in school and at home,” he shares. “I don’t feel forced to open up and listen to my caseworker. I really feel that he genuinely cares about me.” 

Despite the headway they’ve made, Mr Danny acknowledges that he is prone to err. “I am not perfect but knowing that I can reach out to Ali’s Trybe caseworker anytime for advice, gives me and my wife the confidence that we can do this.” 

“It is not easy for some parents like me to admit that they need external support in raising their children,” Mr Danny shares. “But by signing up for the programme, I am now equipped with the experience and mindset that will help me become a better communicator and father to Ali.”
