I sat for my final primary education exam with no hope of proceeding with my education. My 8 years in school was full of struggles, I was sent home several times due to lack basic things like books. I had more challenges at home, studying was hard as our house is very small. I come from a family of five, I have a younger brother aged 12 years and a younger sister aged 6 years. Both my parents are disabled due to childhood illness. I have to do a lot to help them with home chores.
Even through many struggles I managed to pass my examination well. I wrote an open letter asking different people for help. My plea reached Sports for Change through my father’s relative. They paid for my school fees, other friends and relatives come together and helped to buy uniform and books. I am now in form one at Kangwi secondary school in Nyahururu. Although I joined school late, I have managed to cope well by doing private studies.
Sports for Change team came to visit my family, their trip to visit me in school was cut by bad roads. This could have been my brother’s first visit to my school. But my school principal was kind enough to allow me to go meet them at home the following day. I was very happy to meet them, they brought books and encouraged me a lot. My whole family was very happy to know that there are people out there that care for us so much. I went back to school full of hope for a bright future. I am determined to work hard and get good grades. My dream is to become a doctor and help my community. If my parents had a good doctor when they were young their situation could have been saved and they would not be disabled.
I would like to give special thanks to Sports for Change and all other supporters who give hope to disadvantaged chidren like me.
