Give Light to South Sudan Refugee Children in Uganda is an initiative to provide 638 solar lamps and Solar power to Children and villages in Bidibidi refugee settlement zone 1 that have no access to Electricity or light source at night to allow them read or revise their books at night.
Bidibidi Refugee Settlement Zone 1 in Yumbe Northern Uganda that host 286,859 South Sudanese refugees has no electricity, people live in total darkness. Schools are over crowded with over 3,800 pupils in one school. There is no access to light for the children to revise their books at night to have better performance. There is no access to power to charge phones for communication and refugee youth are almost cut off from the rest of the world. Solar lamps donated by UNHCR in 2016 are broken down
This project hence will redistribute 638 solar lamps to the refugee communities to help these children read at night and perform well at school. This project will encourage social gathering and promote unity, peace and coexistence. It will provide security to the refugees households and it will give refugees technical knowledge
Performance of children at school will improve. It will provide security to the families at night. It will bring happiness and unity, peace in the community. It will connect refugees to the world. This will reduce fire outbreak and destruction of homes by fire. Hardship and struggle will reduce. This will heal them of trauma. It will promote family gatherings and socialization. It will create job to the youth
