A Home, a Future: Transforming Lives in 2024

By ANA PALACIO | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

2024 was a year full of movement, where every action left a mark on our mission to change lives.

Throughout these months, we made great progress that strengthened our work. We celebrated achievements that fill us with hope and faced challenges that tested us as an organization. We also experienced losses that reminded us how fragile our path can be, but from each one, we learned valuable lessons that continue to guide our purpose.

  • 97 boys found safety and care in our Boys' Shelter Home
  • 64 girls received love and protection in our Girls' Shelter Home
  • 126 children (69 boys and 57 girls) received support in our Day  Care Program
  • 34 teenagers and young adults were guided in the Independent Living Program

During the year, we delivered 130 food packages to families and more than 80 market packages to families in the “Blanca Luz Restrepo Friendly Families” program in Sopetrán.

We implemented nutritional education and support, focusing on the importance of eating all food groups daily, proper use of utensils, correct posture at the table, and personal hygiene. Thanks to this, we improved eating habits. Throughout the year, we served around 100,000 full and balanced meals and more than 70,000 nutritious snacks. About 95% of the children improved their nutritional condition.

With the School of Business Education (our partner school), we continued using a personalized learning strategy that adapts to each student’s needs. This flexible model helped 64 girls in the Girls' Shelter Home and 50 boys in the Boys' Shelter Home improve their learning.

Additionally, 47 boys from the Boys’ Shelter Home attended nearby schools, ensuring that all children in both the shelter and day programs were enrolled in school, guaranteeing their right to education. In both shelter homes, 90% of the children and teenagers achieved their academic goals and moved on to the next school year.

100% of children in the shelter homes received clothing, personal hygiene items, and school supplies for the entire year.

Despite the challenges in our healthcare system, 100% of children received medical attention based on their individual needs, including general medical care, dental check-ups, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, optometry, orthopedics, and more.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey: staff, volunteers, donors, strategic allies, and families. Every contribution, big or small, has left a lasting impact on the lives we touch and the community we serve together.

Join us in this project to keep helping more children in Medellín, Colombia!
