Have you ever noticed that sometimes children don’t resist change—they simply need someone willing to stay, and walk with them a little longer?
At Teach For Taiwan, we see this every day. And today, we’d like to share one quiet but powerful moment from Chia-Yen Hsu, a TFT teacher serving in rural Miaoli.

From Chaos to Calm—One Semester at a Time
What does change look like when it finally takes shape?
At the start of the school year, even simple tasks felt overwhelming. During a library move, children were restless, impatient, and easily frustrated. Complaints filled the room, and cooperation felt far away.
Fast forward to the end of the semester. The newly renovated library was ready—and once again, the task was to move books. But this time, something had changed.

Learning to Notice One Another
What happens when children feel safe enough to speak—and to listen?
As the work began, students naturally found their rhythm.
“Can we pass fewer books? They’re a bit heavy.”
“Wait—let’s pause, there’s a traffic jam up front!”
Older students volunteered to carry heavier loads. Younger ones spoke up calmly. Some children who once wanted to sit out stepped forward to help others. Questions turned thoughtful, voices steady.
In less than two class periods, the job was done—smoothly, together.

The Power of Staying Long Enough
Why do these small moments matter so much?
Standing in that room, I felt deeply moved. I saw children who once lashed out begin to regulate their emotions. Children who seemed disengaged slowly step into responsibility. Urgency softened into clarity. Resistance turned into care.
This wasn’t a miracle. It was time. It was a presence. It was many small moments of choosing not to give up.

Growth Is Built, Not Rushed
Can we trust that seeds will grow—even if we don’t always see them bloom?
Change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, repetition, and someone willing to notice the smallest progress. Some days are exhausting. Some days feel endless. But when a seed is planted with care, growth will come—quietly, steadily.
That day, I saw one of those seeds begin to sprout.

Let Learning Continue—Even Through Summer
These moments are why learning should never pause, even when school is out.
At TFT, we believe children need consistent support—not only during the school year, but through the summer as well. With your support, we can continue to provide spaces where children are accompanied, understood, and given time to grow.
Thank you for your generosity. Your donation makes it possible for these changes to take root—and continue.
If you’d like to keep walking alongside us, we warmly invite you to follow our journey on our website, Instagram, and Facebook, where many more stories of growth and hope are waiting to be shared.
