This project will save the lives of 300 people including children aged 0 to 5, breastfeeding and pregnant women most affected by severe malnutrition among Internal Displaced Persons from Minembwe in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo through food assistance and medical care support
While the whole world is almost in containment against COVID-19, currently more than 120,000 internal displaced people (IDP) are trapped in the center of Minembwe alone without any humanitarian assistance following the armed conflicts that took place there since two years ago. The food instability that has taken hold in this area and its devastating consequences, including malnutrition and stunted childhood, are the major problems we want to address to restore children's well-being.
This project will provide nutritious meals to malnourished children, breastfeeding women and pregnant nutritious meals, medical support for those who are supposed to be hospitalized for malnutrition and will create a network of voluntary nutrition advisers after training in the matter who will help in the awareness of the change of mentality and the preparation of a full meal based on local foods
The number of nutritious meals is increased to at least twice for each of 250 severely malnourished family per day and those medically assisted are recovered. A community Nutrition Advisors Network is established and strengthened and the local capacity to deal with malnutrition in children under 5 is strengthened within the community
