We are delighted to announce that the construction of the toilets at the school "Padres Unidos" of Cañete Cué, Carapeguá has started! The first building materials were bought, and the ground staked out, in the middle of January. The work is scheduled for completion by the end of February/beginning of March, before the new school term starts. The building materials and manual labor are both being sourced locally as a means of involving the whole community in the project.
The new building has a bathroom for girls and one for boys. The ladies’ will consist of two compartments with sinks and two toilets; and the men’s will have a sink, a urinal and a toilet. The original architect’s plan had to be adapted so that the work could be carried out with the amount of funds raised.
The school “Padres Unidos” (Parents United) is 70 years old and is a community enterprise run by the families of Cañete Cué, Carapeguá. Thanks to the donations received by Global Infancia from people in Paraguay, the UK (and as far away as Dubai!) we are able to give access to healthy sanitary conditions for all the 200 children at the school, and all the teaching and administrative staff, thereby improving the community’s living conditions as a whole. Many of these children come from families that only have latrines at home, due to a lack of water supply infrastructure in the region.
Thank you once again to all the people that put their trust into Global Infancia and have helped make this project become a reality!
