Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Thank you for your continued compassion and belief in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty. Through American Aid (A A Relief), we are working to support orphaned and vulnerable children and widowed caregivers in rural Butebo District, Uganda, where poverty rates reach 35.7%, and many families struggle to survive on less than $2 per day.

While this project is still in the earliest stage of fundraising, we used this quarter to strengthen readiness and local coordination so we can begin delivering education and empowerment support immediately as funding grows.

Progress Update (This Quarter)

During this reporting period, our team focused on building the operational foundation required to deliver holistic, accountable support. Key areas of progress included:

  • Strengthening local coordination with community leaders, schools, and trusted partners in Butebo to support safe identification and verification of the most vulnerable children and widowed caregivers.
  • Refining needs documentation to better map priority barriers to school attendance, including uniforms, basic supplies, and the daily hunger that prevents children from learning.
  • Implementation planning for phased delivery of support—so we can begin with the most urgent needs (school access and nutrition) while expanding into healthcare and caregiver empowerment as funding increases.
  • Preparing transparency and tracking for clear reporting on outputs such as children supported, school supplies delivered, meals provided, and caregiver participation in skills training.

Community Need & Why This Project Matters

The need in Butebo District remains urgent:

  • Families survive through subsistence farming and unstable income, often earning less than $2/day.
  • Orphaned children and widowed mothers face the harshest conditions—forced to choose between food and education.
  • Children miss school to help with farming, which locks families into generational poverty.
  • Limited access to clean water, healthcare, and educational materials creates daily hardship and impossible choices.

Our work is rooted in dignity. These children are not statistics—they are students with dreams, and widowed mothers doing everything they can to protect their families with almost nothing.

Program Model (What Funding Will Deliver)

Once funded, American Aid (A A Relief) will provide integrated support that protects children’s education while strengthening family stability, including:

  • Educational essentials: school uniforms, books, and supplies
  • Daily nutritious meals so children can learn without hunger
  • Clean water access to protect health and reduce illness-related absences
  • Basic healthcare support for vulnerable children
  • Skills training for widowed mothers to build sustainable income
  • Agricultural education to strengthen household food security and resilience

We work closely with local stakeholders to ensure culturally sensitive, community-led support that is accountable and sustainable.

Challenges & Strategic Response

Primary Challenge: Funding remains at an early stage. With limited funds raised so far, we cannot begin delivering the full package of education, nutrition, healthcare, and empowerment services at the scale this community needs.

Our response this quarter:

  • Strengthening readiness so we can begin quickly as soon as donations increase
  • Building a phased implementation plan to start supporting children with partial funding
  • Improving documentation and impact tracking to maintain transparency and build donor confidence

Next Quarter Plan (Pending Funding)

In the next quarter, as funding grows, we will:

  1. Begin enrolling and prioritizing the most vulnerable children through verified community channels.
  2. Launch initial support activities focused on urgent needs (school access, uniforms/supplies, and nutrition).
  3. Provide clear reporting on outputs (children supported, supplies delivered, meals provided) and outcomes (attendance improvements, reduced hunger-related barriers).

Expected Long-Term Impact

With full implementation, this project will create lasting change in Butebo District:

  • Children stay in school consistently and progress toward completing primary education and beyond.
  • Improved nutrition strengthens physical health and learning ability.
  • Widowed mothers gain skills and income pathways—reducing dependence and preventing crisis.
  • A new generation of future teachers, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs emerges—lifting the community out of poverty.

Closing

We are ready to begin as soon as funding increases. Your support will provide education, meals, clean water, healthcare, and empowerment—giving vulnerable children and widowed caregivers the stability they need to rise.
