With this project, we seek to help "Sichili Mission Hospital" improve the health services they provide to a population of around 40,000 people who live in extreme poverty. We send volunteer medical doctors to triplicate the capacity of the hospital, saving lives. Giving them better health care, dental care and tools to improve their nutritional knowledge, will prevent future diseases and, in the long term, will allow the community to be self-sufficient in the way of managing their health system.
In one word: health. The situation in Sichili is very precarious due to a lack of health personnel, lack of supplies, and lack of knowledge to meet the needs of the hospital and the population that is served in it. We seek to help them improve their health system by giving them the tools to deliver a better service.
"Knowledge is power". That is why our solution is based on teaching these communities as much as we can, so they have better tools to face health and nutritional issues. Every year we send volunteers to both, work in the Hospital and teach the community about health and nutrition. As an example, this year our goal is to implement a "orchard school" and introduce new foods that can help meet the nutritional needs the community can't reach right now.
Even though helping this community today has a huge impact, the goal is that all the changes and improvements made can be maintained in the long term so that, eventually, they have the tools and abilities to be self-sustaining in terms of health and nutrition. Ideally at some point they will not need our help, but they will be the ones who take their knowledge to communities most in need.
