Adyn is known for his bright personality, curious mind, and boundless energy. He entered foster care at the age of six, and over the years, experienced multiple moves between homes. By the time he was 12, he had lived in over 20 different placements. While change had become a constant, so had Adyn’s resilience and spark.
That same year, he was referred to the Weekend Miracles program in Los Angeles—Kidsave’s unique approach to helping older kids in foster care build lasting connections with supportive adults. Through monthly, activity-based events, youth and potential mentors or adoptive families get the chance to meet, form relationships at their own pace, and find a sense of community.
At first, Adyn struggled to make a connection. But in 2024, Alyssa and Jacob Kix discovered his profile on the Kidsave gallery while exploring foster care adoption. Watching his video, they saw a bright young teen sharing his love for tech, video games, and cars. “It was like, oh my gosh, that is a mini you,” Alyssa said to Jacob.
When the three finally met at a Weekend Miracles event, Adyn wasn’t sure what to expect—but as conversations sparked around Jacob’s IT job and car hobbies, he began to open up. Over time, shared interests like Star Wars, dogs, and hands-on projects helped deepen their bond. Eventually, they were matched for hosting, which allowed them to spend time together beyond the Kidsave events.
Though Adyn is still searching for his forever family, he knows he’s no longer doing it alone. Alyssa and Jacob are committed to standing by his side, cheering him on through every new adventure—whether that’s building a computer, attending a STEM festival, or simply being there when it matters most.
Climbing Toward Connection: A Weekend Miracles Highlight
At a recent Weekend Miracles event held at Rockreation in Los Angeles, the joy and energy of the program were on full display. Kids and host families filled the gym with laughter and cheers as they tackled rock walls and encouraged one another with every climb. It wasn’tjust about reachingthe top—it was about feeling supported, seen, and celebrated.
From capturing photos of triumphant moments to watching teens simply enjoy being teens, the event was a reminder of the powerful impact these gatherings can have. During events like these, older youth in foster care are given space to relax, build trust, and form meaningful bonds with caring adults. For many, it’s the first step toward finding a forever family—or simply the chance to feel like they truly belong.
