Challenge

In South Africa we are currently experiencing massive power shortages, therefore we have scheduled power cuts. This is a big problem for our family as most appliances and devices are run with electricity. Most of our children are also home schooled thus leaving them at a disadvantage with their school work when power cuts occur. The cost of electricity is also very high,so when we do have electricity we are paying a premium for it.

Solution

By installing solar panels, we will be able to become independent and generate our own electricity. This will allow us to stop using the electricity that comes from local providers, therefore we will not be paying high amounts for electricity every month leaving us with extra money to use for more important matters. We will also have a reliable source of electricity and not have to worry about power cuts.

Long-Term Impact

Having solar panels will help greatly in the long term, due to the fact that it will help us cut down on costs and provide more money to go towards the children, thus securing their future. It will also secure the sustainability of our children's home, allowing us to continue doing what we do.
