GivingTuesday is the single biggest fundraising day of the Integral Heart year. We are working to close out our year-end plans and start the new year in a strong position. This year is exceptional with $1 million dollars being made available by GlobalGiving in a Proportional Match - meaning, the more we raise the more get! Your support will go directly to support the communities of our children and families who are most at risk with the expansion of our home-study and food delivery programs.
Despite all of schools in Guatemala being closed, we remain committed our children and their education. The outlook for coming year shows no indication that we will be allowed to reopen our school. The parents and guardians of our children continue to be severely restricted in their capacity to earn. The public transport system is only running at 50% capacity and a 100% increase in fares. Tourism has been halted thus the economy is being severely affected.
1: The expansion of our existing food basket program will keep our children nourished since they primarily only eat a full and balanced meal when they come to our school. 2: These food baskets will include face masks and hand sanitizer which are being made from locally sourced materials, helping to slow the spread of the virus in our communities. 3: We will increase the frequency of our home-study program documents so that our students remain stimulated by and interested in our curriculum.
It is important that we all feel a sense of being cared for, of being important, a sense that we matter. The love and safety established for our students at our school, are now being transferring to them at home. Nobody wants to feel abandoned or marginalized especially in times of great uncertainty and hardship. Our food basket and home-study program gives our students and their communities that security that someone cares. And it's all possible because of the help you bring to our cause.
