Helping Our CLinic in Zimbabwe Get Back Online

By Dr Faith | Zimbabwe Clinical Lead

Hi There!

Back in July 2022 we fell victim to a crime when somebody stole 3 solar panels from our community health clinic, our clinic is located in a rural farming community which means we are not able to connect to the national power grid and as such we rely totally on our own sources of power.

From generous donations we were able to get these solar panels and a system installed that allowed our medical clinic to have lights, power for a phone line and power to keep 2 fridges online that stored medication. Sadly when the panels were stolen this was not possible which meant we were unable to purchase and store critical medication therefore sick community members could not access the medication without taking a 200Km one way trip to the next government hospital.

Donations have been minimal since then with the rise in global living costs and therefore donations to this project we decided to save up and we now have the funds to replace the panels and this is being done for us nowo, however our next hurdle is that only 1 fridge continues to work as the other being offline for so long as come to the end of the lifespan so our next challenges is to raise funds for medication and then a second fridge. Once this is in place our next move will be to extend our maternity ward from 6 to 12 beds as we have seen a huge increase in demand, currently we have 2 women to a bed and they must bring their own blankets, water and supplies.

There is always more to do but we are grateful to our team of staff and all our supporters as we take steps to move in the right direction

We're excited to announce that GlobalGiving will be matching all donations by 50% up to $50 from April 8th-11th (next week)! If you were thinking of doing a little extra by donating, this is the perfect time to do so as your money will go even further towards making a positive impact. We appreciate all of our supporters and hope you can help us reach our goals with a little extra generosity next week.

Thanks,

Dr Faith
