Challenge

On February 6th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Turkiye and northeast Syria, followed close behind by a 7.5 magnitude aftershock later in the day inflicting severe devastation throughout the region. To date, more than 22,000 have been killed, 75,000 injured, and 750,000 displaced during extreme cold weather. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that up to 23 million individuals will be impacted by this tragedy.

Solution

Dozens of international organizations are mobilizing resources and conducting assessments across the area of impact. Good360 is working with partners such as Islamic Relief USA, MAP International, International Medical Corps, IMA World Health, Global Empowerment Mission, World of Giving, CISDF, Save the Children, Airlink, UPS Foundation, LIFT Nonprofit Logistics, and the membership of Partnership for Quality Medical Donations to determine the most needed products and best way to get them shipped

Long-Term Impact

This response will lead into an extended clean up phase to remove debris. This will be followed by a lengthy reconstruction. As in most disasters, the most impacted will be those without financial options. Our partners will continue to work in the country to identify the biggest needs and direct Good360 on what and where to ship. This will take months and years to complete.
