Hello Israel Aquarium Supporters!
We hope you’re enjoying the holiday season.
In this report we’d like to share with you a little about our moray eels. We have a number of different moray eels in the Israel Aquarium, including the Mediterranean moray eel and the giant moray eel and they are distributed among various exhibits.
Mediterranean moray eels can deliver a dangerous bite to humans, mainly because of the toxic slime present on their skin. They are fished for food sometimes throughout their range and their hides are sometimes used for leather.
Giant moray eels are natural predators of the lionfish in their Red Sea habitat.
In the video below, you can see how a moray eel confiscated by the authorities and brought to our facility is being treated by our team. This eel was suffering from shock and refusing to eat so had to be force fed by our veterinarian.
