Transforming Potential into Opportunity

By Monserrat Chaves | Kattia Garita

This year, Surí Technical High School continued strengthening the educational journey of its first cohort in the Commercial Executive and Customer Service specialization. The cohort is composed of 25 young women who are currently enrolled in 11th grade, representing an important milestone in the development of the school's technical education program.

All students receive scholarships covering more than 60% of their educational costs, helping girls from vulnerable communities in Pavas remain in school and pursue high-quality technical education. This support reduces financial barriers and creates opportunities for academic and personal growth.

A key component of Surí's educational model is English language development. Throughout 2026, students participated in 18 weekly lessons of technical and conversational English, strengthening their communication skills and increasing their readiness for future higher education and employment opportunities.

In 2027, this cohort will advance to 12th grade, the final year of the technical high school program. Upon completion, these young women are expected to become the first graduating class in the history of Surí Technical High School, marking a significant achievement for the school and the community it serves.

The progress of this pioneering group demonstrates the transformative impact of investing in girls' education, technical training, and leadership development. As they continue their studies, they are building the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to create lasting opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.
