Aladina Grants Oncology Aladina Foundation Report on the Grants for Oncology MED Students Program (2025) Program Description At the Aladina Foundation, we remain steadfast in our mission to nurture the potential of aspiring medical professionals who are committed to specializing in Pediatric Onco-Hematology. Over the years, we have provided scholarships at various hospitals, enabling these talented individuals to work in pediatric units while advancing their specialized training. This initiative demonstrates our dedication to cultivating the next generation of experts who will drive progress in pediatric cancer care. Program Impact In 2024, twelve "Aladina Grants" were awarded to promising young oncologists, selected by the heads of Oncology Services. These grants enable recipients to extend their training by an additional year, offering them invaluable opportunities to gain further expertise in the field. This advanced training not only enhances their professional development but also elevates the quality of care provided to young patients supported by the Aladina Foundation, ensuring these children receive world-class medical attention. Results and Achievements The program achieved remarkable milestones over the past year: In 2024, the number of awarded scholarships increased. For the first time in 2024, the program expanded to include other healthcare professionals, awarding a scholarship to a dedicated nurse to further her specialized training for an additional year These scholarships directly contributed to improved patient care within our network of affiliated hospitals, exemplifying the tangible impact of the program on pediatric cancer treatment. Challenges and Solutions A significant challenge remains the ongoing need for sufficient funding and effective communication to sustain and expand this initiative. The scholarships are financed through the "Bandana Challenge" program in schools, which raises awareness among students across Spain about childhood cancer and promotes solidarity. The "Bandana Challenge" involves a symbolic "Day with a Bandana," where students wear bandanas to honor children with cancer and demonstrate support. Ideally held on February 15, World Childhood Cancer Day, the event also allows schools to participate at their convenience. Students are encouraged to personalize a bandana template with drawings or supportive messages, fostering empathy and raising funds through voluntary family contributions. Future Steps In 2025, the Aladina Foundation aims to further expand the scholarship program to include a greater number of recipients across multiple healthcare disciplines. This year, our focus will include increasing the representation of nurses and other allied health professionals, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to pediatric oncology care. By investing in comprehensive training opportunities, we aim to continue improving patient outcomes while fostering professional growth within the healthcare community. This continued growth underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting those who dedicate their careers to transforming the lives of children and adolescents facing cancer.
