Thank you for being part of Fundación Aladina and for making the Grants for Oncology MED Students Program possible. In 2025, within our Comprehensive Support / Training and Research area, this initiative continues to grow and strengthen pediatric cancer care. Today, five hospitals across different provinces benefit from these scholarships, allowing young professionals to specialize in Pediatric Onco-Hematology while working directly with children and adolescents facing cancer.

Program Impact
Paula, a nurse specializing in pediatric oncohematology at Hospital Gregorio Marañón, is one of the professionals supported through this program. She shares: “I have always felt a special calling to care for children and, thanks to Aladina, I can accompany them and their families through such a complex process. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project, which helps us advance in the care of pediatric oncology patients.” Her experience reflects the heart of this initiative: combining training, compassion, and daily support for young patients and their families.

Results and Achievements
Since the last report, 8 scholarships have been awarded, directly supporting healthcare professionals in their advanced training. The program has grown from 9 to 11 active grants, expanding its reach and impact. This progress is made possible thanks to you and to the energy of the Pañuelo Challenge, where thousands of children across schools in Spain stand in solidarity with pediatric cancer patients. Their involvement not only raises awareness but also helps generate the resources needed to continue supporting these life-changing opportunities.

Challenges and Solutions
Sustaining and expanding this program remains a key challenge, as the demand for specialized training continues to grow. Initiatives like the Pañuelo Challenge are essential, bringing together schools, children, and families in a shared mission: to support young patients while enabling healthcare professionals to receive the best possible training.

Future Steps
Looking ahead, in 2026 we aim to continue expanding the number of scholarships and professionals supported, including both doctors and specialized nurses. By strengthening this program, we ensure that more children with cancer receive expert, compassionate care, today and in the future.

Your generosity is helping shape the next generation of pediatric oncology professionals—those who will stand beside children and families during the most critical moments. This year, your support has allowed us to continue strengthening training in onco-hematology units across Spain, ensuring that young specialists receive the hands-on experience they need to provide the best care possible.

Paula’s Story: A New Step Forward

This year marked an important milestone for our program: for the first time, an Aladina Grant was awarded to a pediatric oncology nurse. Paula, who works as the Transplant Coordinator for Hematopoietic Progenitor Transplantation at Hospital Gregorio Marañón, shared how transformative this opportunity has been for her. She has always felt a strong calling to care for children, and thanks to the grant, she has been able to deepen her expertise and accompany families through the complex transplant process. “This initiative helps us grow as professionals,” Paula says, “and ultimately improves the care we give to our young patients.” Her dedication reflects the essential role nurses play in pediatric oncology, and why expanding the program to include them was so necessary.

Your Impact This Year

Since our last update, 11 young oncologists and 1 pediatric oncology nurse have received Aladina Grants, allowing them to complete an additional year of specialized training. These grants strengthen care teams, enrich hospital units, and directly improve the experience of children facing cancer. The expansion of the program—now including nurses—marks meaningful progress toward a more comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to pediatric oncology.

As we move into 2025, we plan to continue broadening the program so more healthcare professionals can benefit, particularly nurses and allied health staff who are in daily, direct contact with patients. At the Aladina Foundation, we are dedicated to strengthening the future of pediatric onco-hematology by supporting young medical professionals committed to this vital field. Over the years, we have provided grants that enable these individuals to gain hands-on experience in pediatric units while continuing their specialized training. Through this initiative, we aim to cultivate a new generation of experts who will advance the standard of pediatric cancer care.

Program Impact
In 2024, eleven exceptional young oncologists were selected by the heads of Oncology Services to receive an Aladina Grant. These grants offer an additional year of specialized training, allowing recipients to deepen their expertise and make meaningful contributions to their medical teams. This enhanced training accelerates professional growth while directly improving the quality of care provided to children supported by the Aladina Foundation.

Key Achievements
Last year, the program achieved several important milestones:

· The number of scholarships awarded increased.

· For the first time, the program was extended to other healthcare professionals, with a pediatric nurse receiving a grant for an additional year of specialized training.

Challenges and Solutions
Sustainable funding and clear communication of the program’s impact remain ongoing challenges. Scholarships are supported through our school-based initiative, Pañuelo Challenge, which raises awareness about childhood cancer across Spain. Around World Childhood Cancer Day (February 15), students participate by wearing symbolic bandanas, decorating templates with messages and drawings, and encouraging voluntary family donations. This campaign fosters empathy and secures crucial resources to fund the grants.

In 2025, we plan to expand the Aladina Grants program to include more healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and allied health staff, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to pediatric cancer care. By investing in advanced, inclusive training, we aim to enhance patient outcomes and support the professional development of those dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents facing cancer. This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing excellence within the pediatric oncology community.
