Aladina Foundation Report – Oncology Grants for Medical Students (2025) Program Overview
At the Aladina Foundation, we are deeply committed to empowering the future of pediatric onco-hematology by supporting young medical professionals dedicated to this crucial specialty. Over the years, we have awarded grants that allow these talented individuals to gain hands-on experience in pediatric units while continuing their specialized education. Through this initiative, we aim to help shape a new generation of experts who will advance the field of pediatric cancer care.
Program Impact
In 2024, twelve promising young oncologists were selected by heads of Oncology Services to receive an Aladina Grant. These grants provide an additional year of specialized training, giving recipients the chance to deepen their expertise and contribute meaningfully to their medical teams. This enhanced training not only accelerates their professional development but also elevates the quality of care delivered to the children supported by the Aladina Foundation — ensuring they receive the best possible treatment.
Key Achievements
Last year, the program reached new milestones:
The number of awarded scholarships increased.
For the first time, the program was extended to include other healthcare professionals — with a grant awarded to a pediatric nurse to continue her specialized training for an additional year.
These scholarships had a direct impact on patient care in our partner hospitals, demonstrating the program’s tangible effect on the quality of pediatric oncology services.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the main challenges we continue to face is securing sustainable funding and maintaining effective communication about the program’s value and impact. The scholarships are funded through our school-based initiative, the Bandana Challenge, which educates students across Spain about childhood cancer and encourages them to show their support. On or around February 15 — World Childhood Cancer Day — students wear symbolic bandanas and participate in creative activities, such as decorating bandana templates with messages and drawings. The event promotes empathy and raises funds through voluntary family donations.
Looking Ahead
In 2025, our goal is to expand the reach of the Aladina Grants program to include a wider range of healthcare professionals. In particular, we plan to increase the number of scholarships for nurses and allied health professionals, promoting a more multidisciplinary approach to pediatric cancer care. By investing in advanced, inclusive training, we continue to improve patient outcomes and foster meaningful professional growth within the healthcare community. This ongoing expansion reflects our unwavering dedication to those who devote their lives to improving the futures of children and adolescents battling cancer.
