Under My Wing Avian Refuge is home to more than 100 exotic birds. The program we propose involves our participation in the Green Care Project Community Garden Initiative. (a collaboration with Patchwork Pastures local nonprofit organization) to raise awareness on number of birds at risk, extension of our educational center by incorporating a 5 steps' platform. Addressing two major epidemics; exploitation and abuse of exotic birds and increasing numbers of at-risk young adults.
Providing reliable transportation to participants who wish to participate to ensure the program is a success for both human and animal involved. A certified Arborist whose supervision to the garden construction, and to teach the participants the origins and benefits of the plans used for the garden. Publicizing and fundraising for the community garden project. Start-up cost for tools, supplies, and other resources for preparing and developing the garden.
Collaboration with Patchwork Pastures, a local nonprofit organization EIN 83-3481467 and participation in the Green Care Project Community Garden Initiative Brings Recovery and Nature together. Patchwork Pastures has developed a 5 steps' incorporating mentoring, volunteerism, education, internships, and job readiness, which can lead to employment opportunities for individuals who participate in the program for community services and internship opportunities.
This outreach plan establishes the positive effect of working with animals and nature to support at risk young adults in recovery from substance use, mental health challenges or incarceration. We will be seeking volunteers through Drug Court, Probation, Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program (SLAP) for the purpose of encouraging and educating participants on the importance of animal and nature assisted programs.
